The Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP) is once again holding the 2nd International Summer Course in Pharmacy (ISCP), an international academic program that will take place from July 28 to August 3, 2025. With the theme “Harnessing the Power of Natural Products – Innovation in Pharmacy for a Sustainable Future,” this event is part of FFUP’s commitment to supporting sustainable natural resource-based pharmaceutical innovation, while strengthening global higher education networks.

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP) is once again holding the 2nd International Summer Course in Pharmacy (ISCP), an international academic program that will take place from July 28 to August 3, 2025. With the theme “Harnessing the Power of Natural Products – Innovation in Pharmacy for a Sustainable Future,” this event is part of FFUP’s commitment to supporting sustainable natural resource-based pharmaceutical innovation, while strengthening global higher education networks.

ISCP 2025 is designed as a cross-border learning platform that brings together students and academics from various cultural and scientific backgrounds. Through an interdisciplinary approach that includes scientific lectures, workshops, field trips, and cultural activities, participants will gain comprehensive experience in exploring and utilizing natural products in the development of future pharmaceutical therapies.

This year, ISCP presented a number of experts from various leading institutions, including:

  • Prof. Taifo Mahmud (Oregon State University, United States)
  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. apt. Deni Rahmat, M.Si (Pancasila University, Indonesia)
  • Prof. Muhammad Taher Bakhtiar (International Islamic University Malaysia)
  • Ma. Concepcion Sim, MS Pharm., RPh (Trinity University of Asia, Philippines)
  • Assoc. Prof. Deny Susanti (IIUM, Malaysia)
  • Dr. Methee Phumtum (Mahidol University, Thailand)

Various topics to be discussed include the biosynthesis of natural products, nanotechnology for herbal skincare, the use of ethnomedicine, artificial intelligence in natural ingredient research, and the development of herbal-based antibacterial preparations.

In addition to academic sessions, participants will also take part in various field activities and cultural tours at leading locations, such as:

  • Rumah Atsiri (training in natural product aroma extraction and essential oil-based pharmaceutical product manufacturing)
  • UPF Yankestrad Tawangmangu and Pancasila University Herb Garden (introduction to herbal plants and workshops)
  • Holistic Hospital, Purwakarta (application of herbs in complementary therapy)

To further enrich the cultural knowledge of international participants, the program also offers city tours to Yogyakarta, Solo, and Bandung as part of an introduction to Indonesian culture. Participants will be invited to explore the historical heritage, arts, cuisine, and local wisdom of these cities as part of cross-cultural learning.

Acting Vice Rector for Resources, Ir. Handrito Hardjono, MM., MPA., MSM. proudly welcomed participants from Trinity University of Asia (TUA), Philippines, and the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP), Indonesia. He added that this program is not only a platform for learning pharmaceutical science, but also a celebration of international friendship, cultural exchange, and interdisciplinary thinking. May this experience have a positive and memorable impact on the academic journey and professional development of the participants.

This program is open to undergraduate pharmacy students from within and outside the country who are interested in pharmacognosy, ethnomedicine, and natural product development. Students from Pancasila University will receive additional academic recognition in the form of credit hours, while all participants will receive an official certificate signed by the head of the institution.

ISCP-UP 2025 reflects the strategic steps taken by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Pancasila University in embracing cross-border collaboration, combining science and culture, and preparing pharmacy students who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also sensitive to global challenges.
